Service 07 / After publication

Reach the readers who don’t read in your language.

A translated edition is a second life for a book you have already written. We choose the languages worth the investment, manage professional literary translators, and position the new edition so readers in that market can find it.

01Signs it matters

Your next readers may be waiting in another language.

  • Readers abroad ask when the book will be available in their language
  • The book sells steadily in English and you want a new market rather than a new title
  • Your genre is strong in countries where your book isn’t published
  • You have been approached about translation rights and want to understand the offer
  • You want a second edition earning while you write the next book
  • You have seen machine-translated books in your category and want yours done properly
02What we do

Translation, planned like a publication.

  • Market selection

Which languages are worth translating into for this particular book, based on how the genre performs in each market and how easily the book can be placed there.

  • Translator matching

Professional literary translators who work in your genre and language pair, chosen for the way they handle voice rather than word count alone.

  • Sample first

A sample passage before the full book is commissioned, reviewed together so you can hear how your voice sounds in the new language.

  • The translation, managed

Briefing, schedule, queries and revisions handled for you, so you stay the author rather than the project manager.

  • Positioning for the new market

Title, description, categories and keywords written for readers in that language. Positioning is rebuilt for the market, never translated word for word.

  • Publication and launch

Metadata, retail set-up and a launch plan for the edition, so it arrives as a real book rather than an extra file.

Languages we work in

Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese. Other languages can be arranged when a book and its market justify it.

Who it’s for

Right for you if

Your book has proved itself in one language.

  • The book already finds its readers where it is published
  • You hold the translation rights and are free to use them
  • You can commit to one market properly rather than several thinly
  • You want the translated edition positioned, not simply produced
Where it fits

Translation comes after positioning.

A book that is unclear in its first language stays unclear in its second. Book Positioning and Discoverability Strategy come first, then the translated edition is positioned again for its own market.

After publication, Book Launch Strategy and Reader Growth apply to the new edition exactly as they do to the original.

Questions about translation

Do you translate the book yourselves?

No. Translation is done by professional literary translators who are native speakers of the target language and who work in your genre. Our part is choosing the right translator, managing the work and positioning the finished edition.

Is machine translation ever used?

Not for the book itself. Machine translation is quick and cheap, and readers in that language notice within a page. A translated novel or memoir is a rewriting job, and it needs a human writer.

Which language should I start with?

That depends on your genre rather than on market size. Some categories travel well into German, others into Spanish or Portuguese. We look at how your kind of book performs in each market before recommending one, and we recommend starting with a single language.

What does it cost?

Translation is priced by the translator, usually per word, so the length of your book and the language decide most of the cost. We’ll give you the real figures for your book before anything is commissioned, along with our own scope and fee.

Who owns the translated edition?

You do. The arrangement with the translator is agreed in writing before work begins, and the rights in the translated text are assigned to you.
