About Author Growth
What does Author Growth do?
We help authors strengthen their books before publication and grow their readership after it. Before publication, that means manuscript help: beta reading, feedback and editing. After publication, it means positioning, discoverability, launch strategy, author platform, content and reader growth.
Who do you work with?
Independent authors, traditionally published authors and writers who are still working on their book. What they share is that they care about their work and want a thoughtful partner.
Do you work with every genre?
We work across fiction and non-fiction. If we don’t think we’re the right fit for your book or your goals, we’ll tell you.
Who founded Author Growth?
Author Growth was founded by Kendra. You can read more on our About page.
The free book audit
What is the free book audit?
It’s a free look at your published book’s positioning, discoverability and reader-growth opportunities. We identify the areas most worth improving and tell you where to start.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s no cost, and no obligation to work with us afterwards.
What do I need to provide?
Your name, email, the book’s title and its genre. A link to where it’s sold helps, and anything you tell us about your goals helps even more.
Will you review my writing?
No. The audit looks at how the book is presented to readers, not the writing itself. For feedback on the writing, Manuscript Help is the right place to start.
Manuscript help
My manuscript isn’t finished. Can I still ask for help?
Yes. Your manuscript doesn’t have to be finished before you ask for help.
I don’t know which service I need.
That’s normal. Choose “I’m not sure what I need” on the manuscript help form and we’ll help you work it out.
Do I need to send my manuscript straight away?
No. We start with a conversation. If reading the manuscript would help, we’ll tell you how to send it. Nothing is uploaded through this website.
Is my manuscript kept confidential?
Yes. Your manuscript is only used to provide the help you asked for, and is never shared without your permission.
What’s the difference between developmental editing, line editing and copy editing?
Developmental editing looks at the big picture: structure, pacing, character and argument. Line editing works sentence by sentence on voice, clarity and flow. Copy editing is the final careful pass for grammar, punctuation and consistency. Most manuscripts benefit from them in that order.
Working together
How much does it cost?
Every book and every goal is different, so each piece of work is scoped individually. The book audit is free, and you’ll know what’s included and what it costs before any paid work begins.
How long does it take?
It depends on the service and the book. We’ll agree a timeline with you before any work starts.
Do you do the work, or tell me what to do?
Both are possible. Some authors want a clear strategy they can carry out themselves. Others want support putting it into practice. We’ll recommend what suits your time and budget.
I’m traditionally published. Will this conflict with my publisher?
Our work is designed to sit alongside your publisher’s. We focus on the reader-facing work authors usually own, and we’re glad to coordinate so everyone pulls in the same direction.
Who owns the accounts, lists and materials?
You do. Your accounts, your reader list and your decisions remain yours throughout.
Results and expectations
Can you guarantee sales or rankings?
No, and you should be cautious of anyone who does. What we can promise is careful research, clear thinking and honest advice aimed at the readers most likely to care about your book.
Do you buy reviews or use promotion tricks?
Never. Everything we recommend follows retailer guidelines and treats readers with respect.
How will I know it’s working?
We agree a few simple, meaningful measures at the start, such as visibility in the right categories, newsletter growth or series read-through, and review them together.
Your book deserves to be ready, discoverable and read.
