Already published your book? Get a free look at its positioning, discoverability and reader-growth opportunities.

A cloud of violet ink blooming through pale water

Your book is out in the world, but are the right readers finding it?

We’ll look at your book’s positioning, discoverability and reader-growth opportunities and identify areas worth improving.

It’s a clear, outside view of your book as a reader meets it: on the retailer page, in its categories, in search results and in the places a reader might look for you afterwards. Many of the things that hold a published book back can be changed without touching a word of the manuscript.

The audit is free, and there’s no obligation to work with us afterwards.

01What we look at

Three lenses on one book.

The same three things decide whether any book reaches its readers. We look at each of them, then tell you where the biggest opportunities are.

Positioning

  • Who the book appears to be for
  • How the title, cover and description signal genre and tone
  • The comparable titles it sits beside
  • How clear the book’s promise is to a new reader

Discoverability

  • Categories and subcategories
  • Keywords and the terms readers actually search
  • Retailer page and metadata
  • How easily a reader finds the book without knowing its name

Reader growth

  • Your author presence and website
  • How readers can stay in touch with you
  • What a reader can do after the last page
  • Opportunities for reviews and word of mouth
02How it works

Simple to request. Useful to read.

There’s nothing to prepare beyond a few details about your book.

  1. 01

    Request your audit

Tell us about your book using the form below. A link to where it’s sold is helpful, but not essential.

  2. 02

We review the book as readers meet it

We look at its positioning, discoverability and reader-growth opportunities through the eyes of the readers most likely to care.

  3. 03

    We share what we found

You’ll hear the areas most worth improving, in plain language, with a sense of where to start.

  4. 04

    You decide what’s next

Make the changes yourself, or talk to us about a strategy. There’s no pressure either way.

Your book is published and deserves more readers.

  • Your book is published, independently or traditionally
  • You’d value an honest outside view of how it’s presented
  • You’re considering a relaunch or a new marketing push
  • You want to know where to focus before spending more
Not the right fit if

You’re still working on the manuscript.

  • Your book isn’t published yet
  • You’re looking for a review of the writing itself

Questions about the audit

Is the audit really free?

Yes. There’s no cost, and no obligation to work with us afterwards.

What do I need to provide?

Your name, email, the book’s title and its genre. A link to where it’s sold helps, and anything you tell us about your goals helps even more.

Will you review my writing?

No. The audit looks at how your book is presented to readers and where the biggest opportunities are: positioning, discoverability and reader growth. If you’d like feedback on the writing itself, Manuscript Help is the right place to start.

What happens after the audit?

That’s up to you. Some authors take the findings and make the changes themselves. Others ask us to help with a positioning, discoverability or reader-growth strategy. Either is a good outcome.
